Freestyle.Berlin Preview

The weekend of freestyle.berlin is nearly upon us, and after the madness at Freestyle.ch in Zurich we’re looking forward to seeing what the riders are going to pull out of the bag this time. The riders list and format remain largely unchanged. Simon Dumont and Richard Permin are the two noticeable additions to the riders list and you can expect to be seeing one of Dumont’s double front supermans at some point during the weekend, as well as Richie’s steezy double tail grabs. Laurent Favre will unfortunately not be making an appearance this time round.

Freeski legend, Nico Zacek and pro skater, Jürgen Harrwarth express their excitement for Freestyle.Berlin

The organisers have been working since last Thursday and as you can see form the shots, the 32m high ramp is starting to shape up. The location looks pretty cool as well, with the event taking place at the recently decommissioned, Airport Berlin-Tempelhof.

The location has an historic significance as well. Exactly 100 years ago, Orville Wright’s first record flights and shows were astounding audiences at Tempelhof Airport, just as the skiers show will hopefully astound the present day audience. And in 1923, Tempelhof was one of the first commercial airports to be put into operation in Germany; its first flight in 1926 was headed right for the place of freestyle.berlin’s origin – Zurich!

The event program, riders list, and admission price info is all below. Unfortunately SkiUnion cannot attend the event, but we will be bringing you reports on the action as it happens and will bring you a video update after the event, hopefully by Monday.
