Following a couple of down days due to the less than favourable weather conditions, the sun eventually powered through onto the massive features of the Mac Daddy hill, ready for the first stop of the Freeride World Tour for 2013. Revelstoke, as ever, was not one to disappoint.
After getting familiar with the second and third spots, Crystal Mountain local Drew Tabke finally earned his first time on the top spot of the podium, which he put down to picking a tactical line.
“Some challenging conditions existed on the venue due to slides, but my line had great snow. The choice of the line was pretty strategic for me here. I wanted to avoid tracked out terrain and therefore went for a pretty original line. I think I am the first one to ever attempt this line on this mountain, sticking it from top to bottom.”
Jeremie Heitz followed him in second and Julien Lopez’s plan to head for the pillow drops on the ride side of the Mac Daddy face seemed to pay off, putting him in third.
The women hit it tough with tracked out snow and ice, but Christine Hargin didn’t seem to struggle too much, confidently claiming the top podium position. While Nadine Wallner came in second and Natalie Segal’s impressive double pillow drop deservedly earned her a third place.
Keep an eye out for the individual runs dropping and get hyped as the tour continues next weekend in Courmayeur Mont Blanc, Italy on 19th January, here’s the teaser to keep you going.
