If we were to reel off all the injuries that Bene Mayr spouts out at the beginning of this edit, we’d be here all afternoon, to say he’s taken a few knocks would be a hell of an understatement. Bene however doesn’t seem to be too perturbed by these succession of injuries, claiming that he ‘wouldn’t give it up for anything’. Even a threat from the doctors that he’d need a new set of knees by the time he was 40 didn’t seem to throw him off his course. This has caused a few grumblings by some, who perhaps could be said to have a little too much time on their hands, who are accusing Bene of being too ‘risky’. But if his critics want some evidence that he’s not completely reckless, Bene was recently one of many riders who refused to start at the World Cup in Sierra Nevada Spain, when poor weather conditions failed to postpone the FIS Slopestyle World Cup, much to the annoyance of riders, who began to question whether the event organisers cared more for the smooth running of the competition than the safety of their riders… but that’s going into a whole different topic entirely. Here’s a look back at Bene’s last couple of seasons – who sure doesn’t look like he’s falling apart just yet…
