20/01/10 (Pally) Soooooo, for various reasons we are still hanging out in the DavosKlosters area…and the story goes like this:
As per the previous blog, we intended to go and session this little zone we had found with decent snow…maybe build a kicker too…and then head to Eastern Europe on Tuesday. It was also the intention to hook-up with the ‘Legs of Steel or LOS’ (which is Tobi Reindl, Thomas Hlawitschka, Bene Mayr and Paddy Graham) somehere along the way to have a chat about their project which you’ll be hearing more about soon…but instead they came to us.
DavosKlosters received maybe 5 cm of fresh snow on Sunday 17th, which combined with some more windblown fresh and the good quality snow in the area we were headed to, meant conditions were as nice as it gets at the moment… however, it did involve a 40 minute hike to get there which not only saps your energy reserves first thing in the morning, but also makes you hope that the poor souls who you’ve persuaded to walk think it was all worth it!
Good news was that the LOS boys seemed to like our proposed kicker spot, therefore the hike was deemed worthy, and our reputations remained intact…let the build commence!
The wedge turned out to be a bit of a monster, and a pretty tiring build, so we banged out a couple of shots at sunset that night (and we got some bangers…which i’m afraid will not be appearing on here for a while) and headed down to rest for the next day.
There was a pretty good session the next day, Thomas and Paddy got some footage for a video promo for the new Völkl Bridge which will be appearing at ISPO…(the ski looks pretty sick by the way)….and errrrr oh yeah how could i forget…our very own editor Jamie Cameron decided to blow away his mid-life crisis with a triple backflip…what a hero! There was a bit of carnage (video coming soon) but on the second attempt he was soooo close to stomping.
In the end we never really got to session the freeride zone above the kicker, but everyone was pretty exhausted by now, and even though a lot of tricks weren’t stomped it was a good first backcountry kicker session for the winter.
Next stop Eastern Europe, but at this rate who knows how far we’ll get before we have to turn around and be in Chamonix for the 29th…
