After two days of competing with some of the world’s best freeriders, Wille Lindberg, of Sweden is the 2010 Scandinavian Big Mountain Champion.
The big final started at Nordalsbranten, but due to poor visibility, only the snowboard and telemark disciplines were completed. After a few hours of waiting for weather improvements, the board of riders and the organizer decided to cancel the competition when the fog increased in the afternoon.
The final results in the men’s and women’s alpine disciplines were decided by the score from the first day of competing.
Among the snowboarders and telemarkers, Finland ruled. Snowboarder Nicklas Hollsten and telemarker Joonas Karhumaa are the 2010 Big Mountain Champions.
In the women’s alpine class former Swedish national alpine team skier Janette Hargin took the gold ahead of Lotten Rapp and Christine Hargin.
In the men’s alpine the judges had a hard time separating the podium finishers. After a fast and powerful run with huge cliff jumps and perfect landings, Wille Lindberg took his second victory in the SBMC history and became the 2010 champion. Emanuel Hedvall in second place did a similar line. Philip Harlaut in third place was the crowd pleaser of the day with a big 360 over the rocks in Nordalsbranten.
