Winter Dew Tour Finals

The Winter Dew Tour has wrapped up for this season with the final event in Mount Snow…here’s how it went down, and the final overall standings:

Slopestyle
Bobby Brown of Breckenridge, Colo. won the freeski slopestyle final at the Winter Dew Tour’s Toyota Championship, while second-place finisher, Andreas Hatveit, was crowned the overall Dew Cup champion for the 2009-10 season. In women’s snowboard slopestyle, Jamie Anderson of South Lake Tahoe, Calif. was named the Dew Cup champion and Female Athlete of the Year after winning today’s final at Mount Snow Resort. Norway’s Torstein Horgmo won the men’s snowboard slopestyle final, while 16-year-old Sage Kostenburg – who placed second today – was named the overall Dew Cup champion, making him the youngest Dew Cup winner in Winter Dew Tour history.

At the freeski slopestyle final Brown, 18, did a flip off the rail, a variety of spins and ended his run with a double cork 1260, giving him a winning score of 91.75. Norwegian Hatveit came in second with an 89.00 and 21-year-old Sammy Carlson took the third-place position with a score of 86.75.

“It feels great to end the Dew Tour season on a strong note,” said Brown. “Now I’m just looking forward to the Winter Dew Tour next year!”

Despite Brown’s high-scoring run, it was not enough to make him the overall Dew Cup champion. That honor went to Hatveit, 23, a first-year competitor on the Winter Dew Tour, who ended his rookie season with the Tour’s highest honor.

“Winning the Dew Cup feels great, and I’m so happy right now,” said Hatveit. “I came onto the Winter Dew Tour expecting to have fun and do my best; to win the whole thing is just awesome.”

Superpipe
Simon Dumont, 23, won the freeski superpipe final for the first time during the Winter Dew Tour’s 2009-10 season, while, despite taking fifth place at today’s final, New Zealand’s Jossi Wells’ overall point total was enough to make him the overall Dew Cup champion in freeski superpipe.

Dumont had a winning run that included a right 900, a double flip in the middle of his run, an alley-oop 720 and a switch 7, giving him a winning score of 94.75. Nineteen-year-old Tucker Perkins of North Hampton, N.H. was holding down the first-place position after the first round of runs, but ended in second place overall with a score of 92.00. Canada’s Justin Dorey, 21, was in the third-place podium spot with a score of 90.00.

“It’s been a long but fun season, and it was awesome to have everything fall into place to get first at the final stop of the season,” said Dumont. “All of the freeskiers really came together to put on a good show today.”

After placing second at the Winter Dew Tour’s Totino’s Open at Breckenridge Ski Resort and then first at the Wendy’s Invitational at Snowbasin, a Sun Valley Resort, Wells showed enough consistency throughout the season to earn the Dew Cup honor after placing fifth at today’s final, edging out Dumont by a mere five points in the year-long race. The 19-year-old had a final score of 84.00, closing out the year with 260 points overall.

“It feels amazing to win the Dew Cup,” said Wells. “I’ve always looked up to Tanner Hall and just to be able to follow in his footsteps and win the Dew Cup the year after him is something I never imagined could happen. I look forward to the Winter Dew Tour next season and for Tanner to be back competing with us again.”
