The International Ski Congress was held last week in Antalya with a number of important decisions to make. Most importantly was the thought of developing the FIS disciplines in a progressive way and to pinpoint their appeal to the younger generation.
There was unanimous support for the proposal to submit a request to the IOC to include Freestyle half-pipe on the program on the programme of the Winter Olympics. It was a view to be included at the Olympic Winter Games in Socchi, 2014 and it’s something we all hope will get accepted. Snowboard slopestyle and team snowboard cross were also unanimously adopted on the program of the FIS Snowboard World Championships, whilst the submission of slopestyle to the IOC was also discussed.
The International Olympic Committee will now have the opportunity to accept the proposal but it could take up until July 2011 to make the decision.
