BRITS 2012 – PROTEST FREESKI SLOPESTYLE CHAMPIONSHIPS

So here we are again. The halfpipe has been and gone so there’s the slopestyle to go yet and here are the results and video highlights from an extensively fought battle between the best of the British. Special notice for Mollie Summerhayes as her sister Katie is currently killing the ski scene at the moment.

“The sun continued to blaze down for day three of The BRITS and the Protest Slopestyle Championships. The glorious sunshine did mean the course slowed down slightly and the wind picked up but this didn’t stop skiers pulling out all the stops on the exciting new slopestyle course. Ultimately it was two BRITS newcomers, Lucas Hagland and Chloe Hardy that reined victorious and bagged themselves the top podium spot.

Competing in his first ever BRITS Lucas Hagland secured his gold medal with his first run which included a 270 on to blind 270 out on the down rail followed by a massive front flip off the first kicker. His winning run continued with a 360 taipan grab, cork 9 mute, switch 9 mute finishing with a slide on the goalpost and a 270 out on the flat down box. “The park here is awesome and I’ve met some really great people. I’m stoked to land a cork 900 for the first time ever at The BRITS!” said Lucas. Nathan Connolly stepped up his game from qualification to secure the silver medal with an impressive run that included a 270 on to the down rail, right 540 tail grab, switch left 7 and switch right 9 finishing with a 450 out on the final flat down in the rail section. Halfpipe Champion James Machon took home the bronze after falling on his first run leaving it all down to his second run with a 360 japan grab, 540 tail grab and switch 900. Judge Neil MacGrain said. “Lucas came from no-where and he was putting down solid clean runs, and no-one even knew who he was!.”

The women went full throttle today to showcase their slopestyle steeze. When it came to the finals there were a few surprises with first place qualifier Rowan Cheshire crashing out on both of her runs leaving the door wide open for one of the others to take the title. Chloe Hardy came out on top, riding switch onto the box followed by two, very clean 360’s, two straight airs, a slide on the big tube and she finished her run by hitting the flat down box, the only girl to do so in the competition. “It feels incredible to win at my first BRITS and I’ve met loads of new friends. I’m so stoked!” said Chloe. 11-year-old Maddie Rowlands secured the silver medal with some great switch riding and ended with a 360 just hitting the knuckle. Molly Summerhayes took the bronze for the second year running just coming up short on her 720 on an otherwise smooth run.

A special mention goes to 14-year-old Michael Rowlands from the Youth category for placing 4th in the Overall men’s final. He stomped the best rail section in the final and landed a sick 7 nose grab off the kicker. What a guy!”
