Spring and summertime doesn’t signal the end of the skiing season in Norway either, so here’s the lowdown on where to go and what to expect in the country that invented summer skiing.

Folgefonna
As you may have seen in our Folgefonna feature, Fonna as it is know is a small glacial area situated due East of Bergen. The highest point on the glacier is only 1640meters, but despite its relatively low altitude has ample snow dumped on it throughout winter to providing great summer shred conditions.The Actual runs are not long, but the park is pretty good, and with an exceptional base of snow this year, things are looking good. When we left in mid May, the three kicker line was under construction, and we’ve heard that it’s now fully complete along with a good rail line.

Fonna is located a short drive from Jondal on the west coast of Norway, and is about a 2 hour drive including a ferry from Bergen or 7 hours from Oslo. The area is open until November.

Galdhopiggen
At 1850m this is the highest peak in Northern Europe, and is open from late May to early November. If you’ve been watching Jon Olsson’s video blog, you will see that he was recently in Juvass (as it is also known) along with Field Productions hitting up a monster step down kicker (check the video!) Sadly or luckily…depending on which way you look at it…that kicker won’t be there for public usage, but there is one 1.4km slope serviced by a t-bar, and a terrain park with 4-5 kickers and a number of rails.

Stryn
Stryn is Norway’s most famous summer ski resort, and is nestled high up above the fjords where it get dumped on all winter for your summer enjoyment. There are some pistes which are ok, but the real attraction is that you can (providing you know where you are going) ski off-piste and have some really great spring snow freeride conditions. The terrain park has the usual arrangement of various kicker lines and sizes, and there is a good variety of rails and boxes. The glacier opens on the 29th of May to late July/early August, and lifts run from 10am-4pm during this time.

Folven camping is the hub of all activites and partying in the area and is a great place to stay. The ski area is about a 20 minute drive from here.
