Record Snowfalls In Scotland Force Temporary Closure Of Resorts

As some of you are no doubt aware, the Cairngorms are having one of their best ski seasons since… well forever really. The amount of snow has built up so much that they had to close the resort on Friday so they could clear the access roads and dig out the lifts. Their team have been working round the clock and it looks like they won’t be able to get the resort open until Monday. The message following this photo was posted on their site:

“THE MOUNTAIN FACILITIES, ACCESS ROAD AND CAR PARKS WILL BE CLOSED TOMORROW (SUNDAY) TO CONTINUE DIGGING OUT AFTER MAJOR DRIFTING CAUSED BY THE STORMS. ”

‘We have now reached the car parks after shifting thousands of tons of snow over the last five days, however there is still a major task to dig out areas of the mountain and uplift. We have an army of staff coming in to dig tomorrow and we hope to be able to offer some snowsports on Monday’.

As you can see from the video the base is pretty thick. If you are thinking of heading to the area please check their website for details before setting out.
