For the 7th time, the West Coast Session is back!
Earlier on this month, the West Coast Session returned to Mt.Hood, Oregon, to continue its mission in pushing the sport by bringing together some of the world’s best young skiers, filmers and photographers and providing them with a venue to show off and develop their talents. Think pristine parks and a whole load of support thanks to the help of Timberline Ski Area and Windell’s Camp.
Alongside the usual video contest supported by Camtrol and iON, this year introduced a brand new photographers’ contest presented by Buff. Six photographers entered up to two images across the Creative, Lifestyle, Comedy, Rail and Air categories. Check out the results of this contest here.
48 skiers and 12 videographers came together to battle it out for their chance of winning a massive $4,000 and this is what they came up with…
Athlete Results:
Rookie – Niklas Eriksson
Niklas rolled into town in the Traveling Circus van, did some great skiing, did a nose butter dub cork 12 at the sunset shoot, and won himself the title of 2013 WCS Rookie.
Repeat Offender – Ben Moxham
A WCS staple for years, Moxham has retained his signature style after a knee injury and sent it harder than ever this year, floating clean tricks on the big jump, the backcountry setup, and through the park. Congrats Ben, you’re this year’s Repeat Offender
King Meat – Jamie Crane-Mauzy
JCM caught her tips on an attempted double backflip and ate shit hard. We all thought she was totally destroyed, but this tank of a girl picked herself right back up, said “I’m fine,” and then tossed the dub back again a few hours later during the sunset shoot. That’s balls – King Meat balls.
All Day Syndrome – Alex Beaulieau-Marchand
ABM was unstoppable at this West Coast Session. From the big jump to the Tommy E Invite, Alex tossed huge, beautiful double cork 7s and 9s, and generally destroyed every feature in his path for the whole week of WCS. That’s what we call “All Day Syndrome.”
Best Trick – Alex Beaulieau-Marchand
ABM also picked up the Best Trick Award for his immaculate double cork 720 safety on the Tommy Ellingson Invitational quarterpipe, going about as big as the feature would allow. You’ll have to see it to believe it.
MVP – Steve Stepp
In a surprising turn of events, professional amateur turned pro ho Steve Stepp was nominated and quickly confirmed as this year’s WCS. We’re not sure how this coup took place, but one thing’s for sure, no one is better at being Steve than Steve, and Steve’s never been better at being Steve than right now… so that’s good enough for MVP in our books. Congrats Goblin – Am 4 Lyfe!
