Les Gets, Morize, Avoriaz – 26th-28th Jan

A massive change since my last visit a month ago with snow in the resorts and nearly all pistes open, including Le Stade, the main run into Morzine which was mud a month ago! Unfortunately there had been no fresh snow for a while so the lower slopes were slightly icy towards the end of the day. However, up high the pistes were good and skiing everywhere was possible. The top of Les Gets had some great pistes although a few stones still managed to work their way to the surface. The Avoriaz snow park was open and on a sunny Wednesday was very busy! A couple of inches of snow on Wednesday night and Thursday morning was badly needed and the runs became a lot better to ski. Further snow on Friday means that the conditions should be great on piste but I imagine most of the powder has already gone!

Les Deux Alpes – 28t h-29th Jan

The snow snow park and every piste I came across were open, a large half pipe providing plenty of entertainement! But a lack of fresh snow meant very crusty off piste and some icy patches on lower slopes. However, up on the glacier the pistes were in superb condition and if one could brave the cold all day, where I would have stayed! A rechaufe was required and the restaurant at Toura provided an outside DJ and an impromtu party as heavy snow started to fall. This continued all night providing over a foot of fresh powder to ski on Saturday. It was not the easiest to ski however as the sun had baked the old snow so hard that as soon as you hit the bottom of the powder it was icy. In places the wind had blow the powder around so you found yourself going from deep powder to ice! A great day nonetheless and with more snow expected the powder should be replaced!
